LEGISLATIVE

OHIO

Legislative- This purpose of this program is to urge our legislators to preserve veterans’ rights and entitlements and to advocate a strong national defense.

  • Focus on the urgency to meet some, if not all, of the Prioriy Goals. Be sure that you are knowledgeable about the goals. As legislative advocates for veterans, the Priority Goals are our guide when talking with legislators about veterans’ issues.
  • Respond to any alerts you receive as part of Action Corps. Keep in touch with your elected officials. Keep the mantra that "all politics are local” foremost in your work.
  • Know who your elected officials are and contact them to end sequestration NOW. Remember these individuals work for us. We need to unite and make our voices heard that we want, no, we insist, on what is best for those who defended our country and continue to do so.

Take Care of America's Veterans Act (TCAVA) Quick Response Guide

June 19, 2026

The TCAVA Quick Response Guide comes from Adjutant General Dan West as official correspondence. He shared it with VFW Auxiliary National HQs and VFWs on all levels. We are sharing with you so you can share with your members.

The additional purpose of this memorandum and the attached documentation is to provide you with an overview of some especially noteworthy aspects of the Take Care of America's Veterans Act (TCAVA) and to explain why active engagement by our organization is important as the legislation advances through the legislative process.

The VFW and its Auxiliary have long advocated for policies that protect and strengthen the benefits, services, and support systems upon which veterans, their families/ caregivers rely. As currently drafted, TCAVA raises significant concerns regarding current and future veterans’ access to necessary healthcare for common ailments resulting from their time in combat and how it will be funded going forward. These concerns warrant careful review and a coordinated response from organizations committed to safeguarding veterans' interests.

Because questions regarding TCAVA are likely to arise from members, veterans, and community partners, we ask that you familiarize yourselves with the attached TCAVA Quick Response Guide. The document is intended to provide accurate, consistent information regarding both the legislation and our organization's position, ensuring that members of our organization receive clear and unified messaging.
